Cut out of 6mm ply either with no holes or 2 x 8mm holes at each side. All boards are 8cm high and will work with letters up to 6cm high. As a rough guide to the length you require times the letters by 2cm and add 4cm ("Jenny" 5x2+4=14cm so go for 15cm plate)
